AJ retains belts with victory over Carlos Takam

Anthony Joshua beats Frenchman Takam inside 10 rounds

Hard night of boxing against a tough opponent for AJ in front of 80,000 fans at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.

Carlos Takam a replacement for the injured mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev proved he is amongst the top in the heavyweight division lasting late into the defeat against the champion.

Fight Highlights :

AJ was bloodied in the second round from a head clash which hindered his breathing throughout the fight.

Takam cut above the right eye in the fourth and then the left eye in the seventh round.

The doctor was checking Takam’s eyes mid-fight and before the start of the ninth round and allowed the fight to continue.

Joshua was throwing big shots in the tenth but the Frenchman was resilient and remained standing but the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

After the fight Joshua took to the microphone :

“Listen, I come to fight, up until the end, Takam put on a good show. I was boxing him, trying to break him down.

“Unfortunately, the referee stopped the fight. I think the fans wanted to see Takam lying on the floor. We get the win and now we look forward.”


AJ next fight is Joseph Parker.
