Joshua vs Povetkin – Undercard :

  • LUKE CAMPBELL VS YVAN MENDY (WBC Lightweight World Title Final Eliminator)
  • MATTY ASKIN VS LAWRENCE OKOLIE (British Cruiserweight Championship)
  • SERGEY KUZMIN VS …

Joshua returns after his epic stoppage of legend & former Champion Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring” – AJ

“Povetkin is a serious challenge that I will prepare meticulously for. He has serious pedigree, and only a fool would underestimate what he brings to the table.

“I will push myself to breaking point to make sure I am in peak condition for another huge night.

“The next 10 weeks ahead will be intense both mentally and physically.”

British boxing is flying high right now and this is going to be another huge night with a packed undercard.

AJ vs Povetkin - Heavyweights.

Povetkin on the fight :

“The battle for the world title has always been my goal. I fought for the moment to face the strongest in the world and on 22nd September 2018, I get my opportunity.

“Anthony Joshua has four belts and I want them all. I’m glad that our fight will finally take place, the meeting of two Olympic champions in the ring is destined to be a breathtaking event.”

Eddie Hearn on the fight :

“This will be one of the biggest tests of AJ’s career.

“Last time we was there AJ produced one of the most dramatic fights and endings in the history of the sport and I expect this fight to be full of energy and drama.

“Povetkin is a top-three heavyweight and extremely dangerous, but in AJ I see the best heavyweight in the world today and I think we will see a major statement.

“It will be another huge night for British boxing with major championship fights on the card and another one of those special nights and atmospheres that will be watched by millions all around the world.”

Social Media responds :

Twitter: Alexander Povetkin has 24 stoppages from 35 fights and only 1 defeat to a prime Klitchschko. Although he’s past his best, people thinking he’s a walk in the park must be mad. A long fight will suit Joshua as Povetkin will be aiming to put him to sleep and upset the apple cart.

Twitter: Blockbuster showdown! 90,000 fans again. Fourth stadium fight in succession. HERE WE GO! ?

AJ v Wilder still to happen?

Unbeaten WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder offered Joshua $50m (£37.2m) to fight in America, but the British Champ committed to fight in England. Next April Unification fight – the fans demand it!

Wilder beat Luis Ortiz in his last bout in March and has recorded 39 of his professional 40 victories by knockout.

Final Thoughts : This is a very dangerous fight that Eddie Hearn & Anthony Joshua would of liked to avoid. Interesting fight, shorter powerful opponent in the Russian and probably a 60/40 fight in favour of AJ. Popcorn at the ready fight fans!….Let’s go baby ??
